about
This is a Christmas track I wrote a couple years ago and originally released as a mini CD in a christmas card by Fence Records in 2011. A few people starting to ask me about it last year so this year I am making it available again until Christmas!
It was recorded in Darren Hayman's home. I played guitar and sang. Darren played bass and a telecaster with a b-bender. He was pretty happy about using that. Dan Mayfield played fiddle. Alun Thomas played percussion. I forget who was to blame for the sleighbells. Darren, I think. lol.
I have made this track 'pay-what-you-want' because I know it's a hard time of year money-wise for some of us but if you can throw me a quid, I would appreciate that, thankyou.
Merry Christmas.

lyrics
They say "Listen for Sleighbells"
But i don't know how they sound
Our eyes fixed on the ground
Another white lie to be found out
Only God loves the brass band
Plastic mistletoe and whine
As the people stand in lines
Waiting for the sale signs
Don't even go there
I know this is nowhere
No words of a liar
Turn the coal effect fire
Up as high as it will go
This year there was Real Snow
On the ground
So its goodwill to all men
But we still don't know what that means
We sit plugged into our machines
We were building the great pyramid schemes
Don't even go there
I know this is nowhere
No words of a liar
Turn the coal effect fire
Up as high as it will go
This year there was Real Snow
On the ground
Don't even go there
I know this is nowhere
No words of a liar
Turn the coal effect fire
Up as high as it will go
Where did our love go?
It's here.

I only picked up on Meursault recently through their brilliant album “I Will Kill Again”. Investigating their back catalogue has been an absolute pleasure. There something about Neil’s outlook and slightly off kilter way of putting songs together that is endlessly compelling. This is illustrated on the track “Simple is Good” with great lyrics “First there was nothing then there was light. Still there was nothing but now we could see it .....” underpinned by appropriately unsettling keyboards. Meursault and Neil Pennycook are national treasures! markrstirling
